Whitefish Native Jake Sanderson Scores in 4 Nations Face-Off

    It was the USA Vs. Canada in the 4 Nations Face-Off Championship Hockey Match, Thursday night.

    While Canada would claim victory in a 3-2 overtime classic, a local player stole the show.

    Whitefish Native Jake Sanderson would score the 2nd goal of the game for the American's, giving the U.S. a 2-1 lead at that point.

    Sanderson's goal came at the 7:32 mark of the 2nd period.

    In addition to his goal, Sanderson would see close to 20 minutes of ice time and had one hit plus five blocked shots.

    He was named to the U.S. roster for the 4 nations Face-Off as an injury replacement.

    Sanderson was drafted by the Ottawa Senators with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2020 draft.

    On September 6th 2023 Saderson signed an eight-year, $64.4 million contract with Ottawa.

    Sanderson grew up playing hockey in the Glacier Hockey Association through the Peewee level.

    According to glacier hockey's website: "He was the 18U USA Hockey National Development Team Captain in 2019-20 and played for the North Dakota Fighting Hawks in 2020-21."

    Sanderson currently has 35 points for Ottawa this season (5 goals, 30 assists).
