The Whitefish High School Football team opened up the season Friday night as they played host to the Havre Blue Ponies.
The Railroad Rivalry would be derailed as Lightning struck the area.
With 3:30 to go in the 1st half, the highly anticipated contest would officially be canceled due to the weather. The game was officially labeled a No Contest.
Havre was leading 21-7 at that point.
The Blue Ponies would get on the board first thanks to a Griffin Terry 32 yard Touchdown pass to Jayce Hanson.
On the ensuing possession, the Dawgs answered immediately. From the Power I formation, Cole Moses took the handoff and proceeded to outrun the defense for a 60 yard score to tie things up at 7 all.
On the Ponies next drive, the Dawgs would tighten up defensively and force a turnover, an Aaron Anderson interception.
The Dawgs would then drive the length of the field and had it at 2nd and goal. Luke Dalen looked for the QB sneak but as he went to point the ball over the goal line, the Ponies forced a fumble and proceeded to go 99 yards the other way for a Fumble Recovery Touchdown.
After a couple of 3-and-outs Havre would find the endzone once more, this time a 1 yard touchdown run, that put them up 21-7.
The rest is history. Lightning struck the area and the game was called off.
By default, Whitefish hangs onto the Railroad Trophy.
