The Whitefish Bulldogs were back in action Tuesday night for a key conference showdown against the Eureka Lions — and the finish could not have been more dramatic.

Locked in a 3-3 tie entering the bottom of the seventh, the Bulldogs found themselves with two runners on and no outs when Finn Ryan stepped to the plate with the game on the line.

    Moments later, “Big Red” delivered.

Ryan ripped a walk-off single back up the middle, driving home Carter Godsey and sending the Bulldogs pouring out of the dugout as Whitefish escaped with a thrilling 4-3 victory over Eureka.

The clutch hit marked Ryan’s second walk-off of the season and capped another unforgettable finish for the Bulldogs.

Whitefish got on the board first, in the top of the 1st when Drew Queen came into score on a fielding error by the Lions.

Eureka took a 1-run lead in the 2nd and added on one more in the 5th to lead 3-1.

A pair of doubles in the 5th helped the Dawgs tie things up at 3 a-piece.

Tait Orme was instrumental on the mound going 6 innings pitched. He gave up 3 runs on 5 hits and collected 8 strikeouts.

Carter Godsey, in relief, struck out 3 batters in a row to end the top half of the 7th.

Whitefish tallied 11 hits and now sit at 11-6 overall on the season. They are 8-3 in conference play.

Whtiefish controls their own destiny the rest of the way. Win out and the Dawgs are no worse than the No. 2 seed and would host a play-in game.

Whtiefish and Columbia Falls will play host to the Sapa-Johnsrud Memorial Tournament this weekend, bringing is several teams for a couple days of baseball to honor the legacy of Jim Sapa and Ray Johnsrud.

Whitefish will host games at Smith Fields with C-Falls hosting games at Sapa-Johnsrud Memorial Field.

Whitefish hosts Hamitlon at 5pm on Friday and squares off with Frenchtown at 3pm on Saturday.

Both those games will be broadcast live on Outlaw Country.

Whitefish then closes out the conference season next week with games against Browning, on Monday (those two will not be broadcast live).

On Wednesday, Whitefish will have their season finale against Polson, Senior Night. (That game will be broadcast live).
